Bibliomania

books.jpgRecycla considers herself to be a bibliophile. She not only loves books, she cannot live without them. Luckily, her husband and children feel the same way, and everyone in the house is an avid reader.

Because Recycla reads so many books, she usually visits her local library every week to get her literary fix. This saves her not only money but also space. Otherwise, where on earth could she store all those books she reads every year?

Recycla does buy books too. Her local library has a huge sale every spring, plus her town has several very good used book stores.

Occasionally, the number of books in Recycla’s house becomes overwhelming and it is then time to dispose of some books. How? Listed below are some of Recycla’s favorite ways to recycle in a literary fashion:

  • Give books to family and friends.
  • Donate the books to the library, to be sold at the annual book sale.
  • Sell the books at a used book store.
  • Donate children’s books to a local elementary school.
  • Register at BookCrossing and see where your book ends up.

That’s just a partial list. What other ways do you fellow superheroes recycle your books?

The public library is the best resource any community has. Any city I’ve lived in, I judge by the quality of their libraries.
I usually give books to my sister-in-law who owns a used bookstore. The one thing I do that’s not on your list is take them to the used book room at the recycling center on McIntire Road. That’s a great way to get rid of magazines, and also to pick up free copies of magazines and books.

Amen to libraries!
Waiting areas are also a nice place to donate children’s books–
The Bumble Book Club has a book swap at every meeting–we trade and pass on and lend freely to save money and share our love of good books. We also have an annual “Clean your shelves” party where we bring all of our books that we want to be rid of and we “book shop” for free–with the added bonus of reader recommendations!

Don’t get rid of your books! They make the most fantastic insulation for your walls - and you can still have the pleasure of reading them!

This is a very timely post for me! Thanks!

Our county has a prison and I also donate to their library and to the Women’s Shelter, who also get my used clothes!
